There are many ways to be involved with Habitat for Humanity on an individual and group basis that don’t require a hard hat!  These are also great opportunities for volunteers under 16 who aren’t allowed on the construction site yet.

Serve Morning Refreshments or Lunch Beginning at 9:00am, refreshment volunteers can bring & serve coffee, tea, muffins, donuts, or bagels as construction volunteers are checking in and completing their waiver forms.  Construction volunteers take a lunch break at noon. Refreshment volunteers can bring and serve sandwiches, salads, soup and hot/ cold drinks and meals. These services can be provided year round. This opportunity is great for girl/boy scout troops, or volunteers who don’t want to volunteer in construction!  To set up a time to help with hospitality, please email partnership@habitatsuffolk.org.

Housewarming for House Dedications
This is a very special day for each Habitat Homeowner. The dedication celebrates the completion of their house. Volunteers are welcome to provide refreshments for the Dedication Ceremony. Volunteers often put together gift baskets, which they present to the family during the ceremony, and help the family settle comfortably into a brand new home. Fill the pantry with non-perishable food items to start the family off right, or fill a laundry basket, hamper or garbage pail with household cleaning supplies, kitchen needs, first aid needs or lawn care needs!  If you would like to present a gift to a family at their dedication, please contact partnership@habitatsuffolk.org.

Annual Family Support Programs
Habitat Suffolk’s Homeownership program is “A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out.” Our Annual Family Support Programs assist our families throughout the year. Through our continual emphasis on education, hard work, and community involvement, Habitat families participate in community service projects as a way to “pay-it-forward.”

Build-a-Backpack
Volunteers often ask how they can assist Habitat families beyond the construction site. One of the ways that you can do so is through participation in "Build-a-Backpack"-an annual program that provides school supplies and backpacks to Habitat kids for the upcoming school year! We believe Build-a-Backpack introduces Habitat kids to our continual emphasis on education, hard work, and community involvement. To register to donate to this program, please email wendy@habitatsuffolk.org!

    • Donate a Thanksgiving basket with all of the fixing's, completely put together and ready to be delivered to a family.
    • Donate individual items that we can put together with other donations to complete a Thanksgiving meal for a family.
  • Adopt-A-Family | Drop Off Date: 12/15/2017
    • When you adopt-a-family you will be provided with a family bio letter and wish list. The wish list will include the name of each child under the age of 18 with a few things about them (favorite color, favorite sports team, t-shirt size, favorite show) and their #1 wish this year. The wish list will also include a moderately priced wish gift for the family such as a board fame, silverware set, a movie, etc. The wish list items are suggestions to help you make a decision when you're out shopping for the family, but you are ultimately free to purchase any gift that you think is appropriate.
    • If you would like to adopt-a-family but do not have the time to do the shopping, please feel free to send gifts cards or a monetary donation labeled "Adopt-a-Family" and we can do the shopping for you.

If you are interested in donating to either program, please contact Wendy at 631 HABITAT ext. 114 or wendy@habitatsuffolk.org.
