There are many ways to be involved with Habitat for Humanity on an individual and group basis that don’t require a hard hat! These are also great opportunities for volunteers under 16 who aren’t allowed on the construction site yet.
Serve Morning Refreshments or Lunch Beginning at 9:00am, refreshment volunteers can bring & serve coffee, tea, muffins, donuts, or bagels as construction volunteers are checking in and completing their waiver forms. Construction volunteers take a lunch break at noon. Refreshment volunteers can bring and serve sandwiches, salads, soup and hot/ cold drinks and meals. These services can be provided year round. This opportunity is great for girl/boy scout troops, or volunteers who don’t want to volunteer in construction! To set up a time to help with hospitality, please email partnership@habitatsuffolk.org.
Housewarming for House Dedications
This is a very special day for each Habitat Homeowner. The dedication celebrates the completion of their house. Volunteers are welcome to provide refreshments for the Dedication Ceremony. Volunteers often put together gift baskets, which they present to the family during the ceremony, and help the family settle comfortably into a brand new home. Fill the pantry with non-perishable food items to start the family off right, or fill a laundry basket, hamper or garbage pail with household cleaning supplies, kitchen needs, first aid needs or lawn care needs! If you would like to present a gift to a family at their dedication, please contact partnership@habitatsuffolk.org.
Annual Family Support Programs Habitat Suffolk’s Homeownership program is “A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out.” Our Annual Family Support Programs assist our families throughout the year. Through our continual emphasis on education, hard work, and community involvement, Habitat families participate in community service projects as a way to “pay-it-forward.”

Build-a-Backpack
Volunteers often ask how they can assist Habitat families beyond the
construction site. One of the ways that you can do so is through
participation in "Build-a-Backpack"-an annual program that provides
school supplies and backpacks to Habitat kids for the upcoming school
year! We believe Build-a-Backpack introduces Habitat kids to our
continual emphasis on education, hard work, and community involvement.
